I received a copy of Duckling Runs Away from the publisher for review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
A warm, comforting story about a cross little duckling and her mother’s unconditional love, from the award-winning and bestselling team behind The Sloth Who Came To Stay.
Duckling Runs Away is another gorgeous picturebook by writer and illustrator duo, Margaret Wild and Vivienne To (of The Sloth Who Came to Stay fame). It’s the story of a young duckling who gets into trouble with her mother and declares that she’s running away and never coming back. She heads off, past all of her other animal friends on the farm until it gets dark and she needs to decide whether to keep going or return to what she knows.
It’s a beautiful, quiet story of the first test of independence, and the importance of a family’s unconditional love. It’s perfect for younger readers, with its lovely, lyrical writing and enchanting illustrations. Duckling has oodles of personality, but also a lot of heart, and it would make an excellent read aloud.
