I’m a long-time Marvel Cinematic Universe fan and will probably remain so for a long time. The films, for all their big, action-packed, very marketable glory, are very enjoyable, with well-recognised characters and storylines that bring out a mix of wonder and nostalgia. And, while I’ve collected a few bits of memorabilia over the years for the fandom, I actually haven’t collected that many books until recently.
Part of a Bigger Universe is essentially a very nice hardcover coffee table book featuring a lot of the well-known quotes from all of the MCU films from Iron Man all the way through to Avengers: Endgame. The quotes themselves come from big, high-action sequences and from smaller, character driven scenes that have become synonymous with the MCU.
From a design perspective, the book is very easy to look at. Coming in a red slipcase with the Avengers iconography, it’s bold and easily recognisable. The book itself is a black hardcover with white and gold foil lettering. The feeling you get is it’s all about the quotes – there’s only a few icons on the slipcase and the cover and aside from silhouettes on some of the pages, no other illustration. The pages inside the book are solid colours or, as mentioned earlier, solid colours with silhouettes that emphasise the quote rather than draw attention away from it.
I love a book that’s pretty to look at, and Part of a Bigger Universe is just that. It also appeals to the part of me that loves collecting quotes!
The only thing I wish had been different was putting the quotes in chronological order – which is possibly more about my need to have things in order than an actual deterrent from the book, but it is something to be aware of when purchasing.
Overall, this is fantastic, collectable book for any fan of the MCU.
